Last year I became a member of Lehigh’s Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and last week we had our first meeting of the semester. BMES is basically a community where bioengineering students and faculty can help each other and have fun. They have a meeting around registration time so that upperclassmen can advise underclassmen on which classes to take and what to expect from different professors. They also have a resume workshop that is more specific to bioengineering so that you can understand what should be on your resume as an engineer. At the meeting last week we were planning different activities to do throughout the semester. Some of the ideas we were discussing were inviting local graduates to talk about their careers since Lehigh and a competition between students and professors in things like bowling and ultimate Frisbee. For me BMES is really a great way to connect with other people in my major and also prepare to life after I graduate, while still having fun.
